"Nice hotel in a perfect location"
The Mercure Grimaldi is very centrally located in Nice, right along a pedestrian zone with many shops (mainly clothes) in a wide range of prices. If you'd rather stroll along the Promenade d'Anglais, it's two blocks away. Heading for Vieux Nice (the old town)? Allow 15 minutes, and you even have time for some window shopping on the way. Add to this clean, medium sized rooms, nice bathroom, helpful staff and a sufficient breakfast (actually abundant to French standards), and you have found your hotel!

"Good Centrally Located 3* Hotel"
Got a fantastic deal ( three nights for the price of two) on [----] at the Mercure Grimaldi Nice. Like the city itself, the hotel is undergoing some refurbishment. Flat-screen televisions and new AC were being added during my stay so there was quite a lot of noise. This aside, I could not really fault it as the main work was carried out during the day when the guests were out. My room, though a little
dated, was spacious, had lots of storage, two writing desks with chairs, and was spotless as was the bathroom. Tea/coffee making facilities are not available in the rooms but maybe this is the norm in France. Breakfast - included in the deal - was excellent with loads of choice. I was really set up for the day and the staff, including those at reception, were very friendly and helpful. One of the best things going for this hotel is the location. It is right in the middle of everything and avid shoppers have loads of choice with designer shops as well as mid-range outlets and an abundance of good restaurants within easy reach. Most of the main shopping area in Nice is a building site but this is due to be completed soon. The promenade and beach are just a short walk away as is the bus stop / drop-off point for the 20 minute journey to the airport. The ticket at €4, and valid throughout the system for the day, is fantastic value and there is a frequent service. This hotel reflects its 3 star rating and with ongoing improvements and its unbeatable location
I would have no hesitation in returning to the Mercure Nice Grimaldi.
It is a good base from which to explore the many tourist sites that Cote d'Azur has to offer and with the city's new tram system on the horizon, Nice, with its well serviced airport will be an even more enjoyable destination than it already is.

"Superb boutique hotel"
This was such a find!! It is central for visiting Nice. The hotel has two entrances which cross over through the rear of the property. We were given a special offer for breakfast. It is however very cheap to buy and eat out as well. There is a pedestrian route with hurndreds of cafes and very good restaurants everywhere close by.
A particular favourite for us was Davia (next door to the hotel) with a real French Madam and her son who run the place. Great price, great food, especially the bouillbasse ( I challenge anyone to finish it...) and a great cheap wine, no booking as there is no telephone number for the place, but turn up at 7.15 and you shoud get in. It is great. We will go back.
A superb experience again was La Maison de la Maire ( heading towards pedestrian route take a right down a passage off the main route). Booking is essential. Quality, fine food and wine. Beautifully presented food and staff excellent.
The Hotel Grimaldi was great, they were helpful staff, clean and beautifully decorated rooms. Good breakfast, loads of lovely hot water and air conditioning/ heating good too. Places of great interest - flower market, promenade at 4.30 pm and watch the older generation walk the walk in their fine clothes, take a trip on the train from the central station to Antibes. Big Red Tour bus good fun, but information is very limited and out of date. Ticket can be used all day to hop on and off as you wish. Bus goes from Albert Gardens. The local bus to Monaco is a super day out ; hot and stuffy on the bus, but very very cheap. Buy the ticket on the bus when you arrive at the bus station. New tram system being laid across Nice in late April 2007 when we visited , i expect it will be an ongoing project for a summer or two. We loved Nice, and the hotel was just brilliant. Will certainly stay in this hotel again and visit Davia too!

Good value hotel, clean comfortable & good breakfast
We decided to have a long weekend away, and choose Nice as we could get cheap flights!
I researched Nice (attractions) & hotels on the Internet, and choose the Mercure Grimaldi as it was reasonably priced, and was in the area I had chosen - near to the sea-front & Old Town. The GTA Hotel deal included breakfast which made it a good deal. Breakfast was buffet-style, plenty of variety, and excellent quality. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Many restaurants a couple of minutes walk away. I recommend taking the Tourist Train from the Promenade des Anglais, as this will take you to the top of the hill to see super views over the Nice & Baie des Anges, and look inland to the slopes too. Then you can wander round the areas you like best, e.g. the Port (large boats), Old Town (narrow streets), and especially Cours Saleya (visit in the morning to see the colourful flower stalls). We also took the train to Monaco (Monte Carlo), a superb experience. Again the hotel was only 10-15 minutes talk from the main SNCF railway station. |

"Winter 04"
Very well located hotel. It is very close to all that you need to see in Nice. The shops, plenty of restarants and sights are close by including the promenade. The room was a good size, clean and modern bath and wrap around deck.
Dont miss La Cigale for a middle eastern meal (walk straight down to hotel to the sea direction till it ends, take a right the 1st left and follow that street about 1/2 way down). Very very good food - ate there 3 times. Take out is cheaper. Noori in Pl Grimaldi is also good. Torrefazione next to La Cigale is a good coffee shop. Have lunch or a drink opp the Palais Dela Mediterrane on the promenade on the beach. Its very romantic. 4 cheese Pizza is good there.

"A Great Place to Stay in Nice"
We stayed here in April 2005 after reading the reviews on this site. The price was reasonable, and we were impressed with the room and the service. The staff spoke English (we speak no French) and were friendly and helpful. The location was good - there are cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby, and it's a short walk to the sea (5-10 mins) and to Old Nice (10-15 minutes). Although we paid a special low rate, we had a spacious corner room. We would definitely stay here again.
