"Great Manager!"
M. Valentine is the nicest, most hospitable and helpful manager we've ever encountered. His restaurant recommendations were excellent. The hotel is small but the rooms are comfortable. Although it's not in the center of Nice, the city is small enough that everything is within walking distance: the train station, the old town, the Cours Saleya. We found the hotel in Rick Steve's travel book of the French Riviera and we booked it ourselves on the hotel's website. Because we mentioned the book, we got a complimentary bottle of wine in our room - very nice!

"Very friendly staff & good location"
This hotel is a good option in Nice. The staff really went out of their way to be friendly and helpful (and they speak good English btw). The room was nice, the bathroom especially so. It's on a quiet street close to the beach and shops. It's an easy 10min walk to the station too.

"Great spot in Nice"
Really clean, charming little hotel, close to main pedestrianised areas, shops and 5 mins walk from Promenade. Hotel itself is clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room (which was a superior double) I found surprisingly compact at first with the en suite door opening out on top of the bed. It was however very clean and maid service every day. The brekkie was a nice continental breakfast with good choice of fruit and yoghurts. Hotel is also only 10 mins from main train station where you can get a cheap journey to Monaco or nearby Ville Franche which is well worth a visit. Other positives are that the hotel is located on a quiet enough street so you are within easy reach of main streets with great restaurants, pubs, etc. but it is quiet for sleeping at night in Les Cigales. Overall, a very positive experience staying there - would recommend for people who want a convenient, comfortable base in Nice near main areas and trains etc. but who are not planning on spending time sitting around the hotel as there are not many facilities for lounging around, etc.

"Very Nice Family Stay"
We stayed at Les Cigales for 5 days in Feb 2007. (slightly late for review but better late than never !)
We are a family of 4 and booked the hotel directly, contacting by email. We did not want to give our credit card details (Now I can say we could have, the hotel is extremely trustworthy) and they asked for a cheque for two nights , which we sent (it was encashed the same day !)
Anyway, to our experience with stay. We got a nice big room at the back (so no noise) and two separate small beds were already laid out for our two kids. Room was spotless. Bathroom was big and comfortable. Room cleaning was done daily.
We live in France (but are not French) - but all the staff speaks fluent English - Including the cleaning lady. The staff was careful with safety and promptly locked up the main door during night.
The breakfast was good - Cereals / Fruits (kids loved it), milk, yogurts, choice of breads and lovely croissants, juices, tea/coffee, eggs .....Very nice, courteous service. Would suggest to go for it.
Feb was Carnival time and best time to visit Nice. The hotel is about 0.8 kilometer from Railway station and we walked several times (while going to Monaco etc). It is also very easy walk to Promenade de Anglais.
Our son got sick on our arrival and the hotel reception staff was very prompt to call a doctor in emergency. The kid responded to treatment and was much better to see the carnival the next day.
A small point on a restaurant - Do NOT go to the Indian Restaurant called "Nooris" - ridiculous food - The hotel reception told us that the ownership has changed hands.
Overall, nice stay - highly recommended.

"Excellent choice, cozy and clean, good location!"
My husband and I stayed for six nights in a double standard room on the ground floor. The room was small but clean and very confortable. We always got a good nights sleep even though our window faced the street, because it is not a busy street. We could hear voices from the lobby sometimes, but this didn't bother us. The bathroom had a tub and hairdryer. The location was great because we could walk to the beach, to the main bus station and to the train station easily. There is a drugstore across the street from the hotel, a store with fresh fruit two doors down and a bakery down the street, where they have wonderful croissants and even great sub-type sandwiches for picnics. We never had breakfast at the hotel. There is a street full of shops and restaurants very close by, where we had dinner most nights. |

"Super hotel, excellent value. Highly Recommended."
We have been to Nice many times, and have stayed at a number of hotels, including a number of high end 4 / 5 star hotels such as the Plaza, and Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo. We tend to spend more on a 'luxury' hotel in the winter, but in the summer, we spend so little time in the room, it can seem a bit of a waste.
This trip, I was travelling with just my 5 year old daughter, and I didn't want to spend a fortune on a room we would just be sleeping in, that she wouldn't appreciate - and a high end hotel in Nice in August is expensive!
What I was looking for was a small, clean hotel in easy walking distance of the beach. This is no mean feat in Nice - near to the beach is not that difficult, but clean and modern can be a problem. A lot of the hotels - even more expensive ones - have shabby rooms that can feel outdated, unloved, reek of smoke and just don't feel nice.
I stumbled across this gem by reading reviews on Tripadvisor, and it really deserves it's high ranking. Ok, it's not full on luxury, and it's not the Negresco or Palais de Mediteranee, but it really is clean and new, and very well positioned - just over a 5 minute walk to the beach, and a couple of minutes to the main pedestrianised street.
I loved that the hotel is small and friendly - the staff were so helpful and cheerful. The room was fairly small but I did ask for a twin rather than a double, and it was all we needed. The bathroom looked brand new, and was modern and spotless. The room was cleaned to an excellent standard every day. It just felt really comfortable and homely.
